A Place in the Sun's Jonnie Irwin making memories with family as he battles terminal cancer

Ex-A Place in the Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin recently enjoyed a family staycation in the Lake District, as he continues his battle with terminal cancer.

The 49-year-old TV host was given just six months to live in 2020, after being told by doctors that he had been living with lung cancer for years before it spread throughout his body and to his brain.

Jonnie, who has a son Rex, three, and twins Rafa and Cormac, two with his 40-year-old wife Jess has regularly spoken out about his shocking diagnosis - including how he had no symptoms before his terminal diagnosis.

Jonnie was initially given a 'wonder drug' to try and combat the cancer, only for the disease to 'come back so come back so violently, it's even surprised the doctors'. Following his self-admitted last Christmas, Jonnie has shared a glimpse inside his family life once more - showcasing a stunning trip to the lakes with his small family earlier this week.

Posting selfies of him and his wife, as well as group shots of the family of five together, Jonnie wrote: "Today out in the fresh air was what we all needed. How I’d love to be up on those fells but staying low around the waterfalls with the family was wonderful in a different way."

In a separate post, he also posted a pic next to a foggy lake, joking: "Good job I didn’t come for the scenery. It is pretty serene all the same."

And friends, family and followers were quick to flock to the posts to wish Jonnie and his family well - as well as detailing how much of an 'inspiration' he is. Kimberley Walsh posted a love heart emoji, while @jennyj47, wrote: "Making beautiful memories you are an inspiration.

"Stay strong Jonnie you are in everybody's thoughts."

Maryheys1942, added: "Good to see you having a great day. I think Windermere is in Surrey as I do remember going there years ago as a young girl. You are both looking good. Thinking of you often," while bevborn, penned: "Lovely photos. Enjoy the day! Thanks Jonnie for sharing. All the best."
