A Place In The Sun's Jonnie Irwin admitted to hospital amid terminal cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin has revealed he has been admitted to hospital amid his terminal cancer battle as he hopes to make an A Place In The Sun event over the weekend.

The former Channel 4 property expert is currently battling terminal cancer and took to Instagram to share the news as he admitted doctors aren't sure when he will be able to leave. The father-of-three was due to appear at an A Place In The Sun event on Saturday alongside his former co-stars.

Promoting the event on Instagram, Jonnie wrote: "In hospital this week monitoring a changeover in my pain management regime. Fingers crossed I’ll be out in time to make an appearance on Sunday for this weekend's A Place In The Sun LIVE event at @olympialondon in Kensington."

The 49-year-old was scheduled to appear alongside his Channel 4 co-stars Jasmine Harman, Laura Hamilton and Ben Hillman and simply concluded his post saying: "Hope to see you there."

This comes after Jonnie admitted he almost died twice during his cancer battle as he recalled the moment he was diagnosed with the disease. During an interview with the OneChat podcast with AIG Life, he recalled the heartbreaking moment he received his diagnosis.

He said: “The programme is to try and remain positive. Positive for me is burying my head in the sand a bit. Jess and I don’t talk about it much and we’ve been close to death’s door a few times now. Twice at least.”

He explained that he had been filming A Place In The Sun in Italy when he suddenly noticed “weird gold spots” while he was driving. Jonnie went to the hospital with a crew member who was with him at the time, where medics told him there were nodules around his brain.

He said: “Within a few hours I got told I had cancer. And I was like ‘right.’ Then a few hours later, my good friend Rahul was sat with me when they said it is terminal cancer and I had six months to live.

“Do you ever hear the phrase it knocked the wind out of you? Nothing had ever done that to me and it did it. I was just battered.”

A Place in the Sun airs on Channel 4 every weekday from 3pm.
