A Place In The Sun buyers' miniscule budget leaves host panicking

A Place In The Sun's Lee Juggurnauth was given a tough challenge after his house-hunters revealed they had just a £50k budget.

Lee flew off to the historic town of Mojácar in Spain's Almería region to help house-hunters Christine and Howard find the perfect holiday home. After 30 years of marriage, the couple decided it was finally the right time to fulfil their life-long dream of buying a place in the sun.

Lee sourced five properties for the couple but their tiny budget left him sweating with anxiety. Lee asked what features they would ideally like to be included which resulted in a shopping list of requests.

Howard said: "I think somewhere with one bedroom, good outside space and that's good for the winter sun. Somewhere within good amenities or maybe a local bus route to the shops and pharmacy with a municipal pool within a reasonable distance - mountain view."

The property expert asked whether they prefered a more modern or a traditional design before they plumped for the latter. Christine said: "Anything that doesn't involve DIY because [Howard] can't even spell it. Maybe a little bit of painting and that's your lot."

Lee then asked the couple how much money they had to play with before he was met with a rather low "£50,000". After a moment of slight hesitation Lee said he would do his best despite the small budget.

As the couple ventured around Spain's sunny coast, they weren't overly impressed with any of the properties lined up for them, requesting more space and bang for their buck. In the end, after some intense bargaining, they managed to bag a property for £47,000.
