At this point, it looks like LeBron James’ NBA career will end before age ever shows signs of catching up with his game. His All-Star Game comments sure made it sound that way.
The 38-year-old James is averaging 30 points per game for the second straight season. And though the Lakers have struggled in the West, LeBron has been the main reason the Lakers even have a chance at reaching the play-in tournament. He’s showing few signs of slowing down. But at the same time, LeBron can’t play forever. He knows that, and on Sunday, he jokingly referenced his looming retirement while wearing a microphone.

The TNT mics picked up LeBron saying, “I gotta slow down. Done. Couple more years …”
The “couple years” is notable because it would fit right in with the timeline that LeBron has alluded to ever since his son, Bronny, emerged as a legitimate basketball prospect. Bronny — currently a senior at Sierra Canyon (Calif.) — is expected to choose between USC, Ohio State and Oregon this spring. The goal would be for Bronny to play one year of college basketball and play his rookie season in the NBA with his father.
LeBron wants that to happen. So, even in mic’d-up jokes, LeBron isn’t going anywhere for at least two more seasons.
