'A lot of people talk' - Ex-Liverpool defender makes massive Steven Gerrard prediction

Former Liverpool defender Gregory Vignal has backed Steven Gerrard to win the Premier League title as a manager.

Throughout the course of his glittering career with the Reds, this is one trophy that somehow remain out of reach for the club icon.

Gerrard came agonisingly close to lifting the top-flight title with Liverpool during the 2013/14 season, though he was denied this special moment as Brendan Rodgers' side fell at the final hurdle.

The 41-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to his coaching career since retiring, helping Rangers go unbeaten for an entire campaign on their way to glory before accepting the role of Aston Villa manager.

Whether or not Gerrard ends up as Jurgen Klopp's successor remains to be seen, though Vignal's one certainty is that the current Villa boss will secure the one piece of silverware he craved most as a player.

Discussing the legacy of the Liverpool great in an interview with World Football Index, the Frenchman said: "He represented the DNA of Liverpool and England. He was such a good professional and won almost everything there was to win in the game.

“A lot of people talk about the fact that he didn’t win the Premier League as a player, but I think he will go on to win it as a manager.”

Vignal's impact at Anfield is quite the contrast to Gerrard's, having only made a total of 20 appearances across four seasons.

But the Montpellier-born defender, who was part of the 2000/01 treble-wining squad, still has fond memories of his Liverpool career.

"For me, I always think back to my first game at Anfield and walking out in front of the Kop and the fans," he said.

“The first time you experience Anfield is special and for me it was no different. The fans are amazing, and I love English football so to play for the biggest club in England was a dream come true.

“When I found out that I was in the squad, I couldn’t sleep the night before because I was so excited by the opportunity. I only have great things to say about Liverpool as a club because it is such a special club to be at and to play for."
