A lorry driver tried to squeeze a trailer under a low bridge in Salford... the bridge won

A driver tried to squeeze a 15ft 7ins lorry under a 14ft 6ins bridge in Salford...and it didn't end well.

Traffic police posted photos of the damaged vehicle on Twitter following the crash, saying the 'bridge won'.

The incident happened in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, on Walkden Road in Walkden.

A traffic offence report was issued to the driver, GMP said.

In the post on Twitter, which was put up at 4am, GMP Traffic said: "Driver tried to squeeze a 15'7” trailer under a 14’6” bridge on Walkden Road walkden.

"The bridge won. TOR issued!"

The Tweet attracted a few light-hearted replies from bemused members of the public.

Styav wrote: "So size really does matter then."

While Steven Green added: "Not the first time, and definitely not the last, especially with that bridge."

And Karen Crook wrote: "Not again!!"
