A lion statue has been stolen from outside a pub near Clifton

A stone lion statue has been stolen from outside a pub in Cliftonwood.

Fiona Vincent, owner of The Lion pub on Church Lane, said she was left baffled as to why thieves would target the 'very heavy' ornament which is not worth very much.

She first noticed it was missing on the morning of Sunday, April 28.

"I felt quite cross about it," said Fiona.

"It was just a lovely lion. It had a very welcoming face. My cousin found it and called me up to ask if I would like it.

"It was very heavy. It's not something some kids could carry by themselves."

The owners are yet to contact police because they want to give the thieves time to return it.

"It could have just been some students larking around," said Fiona.

"I'm not sure the police would be able to help.
