A-League ban reduced for Mariners' Urena

Central Coast linchpin Marcos Urena's suspension has been reduced but the Costa Rican will still miss Wednesday night's A-League game against Brisbane.

Urena was initially suspended three games for serious foul play in an incident in the Mariners' 4-0 loss to Brisbane on April 28.

The attacker was initially shown a yellow card for his challenge on the Roar's Jay O'Shea but on VAR review referee Alex King issued a straight red card.

The fourth-placed Mariners appealed the severity of Urena's ban, with the A-League's disciplinary committee reducing the suspension to two games.

Urena has already missed one game, with the committee ruling him ineligible for the fourth-placed Mariners' next game - Wednesday night's away encounter against Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell has been suspended for two games by the match review panel for his dangerous sliding tackle on Perth Glory's Callum Timmins on Sunday.

Ansell was given a straight red card for the tackle in Victory's 2-1 loss to the Glory.
