‘A genocidal maniac’: Piers Morgan finally turns on Israel as 14,000 babies face death by starvation

The Gaza Strip is currently the worst place in the world. Israel’s 11-week “aid blockade” has resulted in a man-made famine, compounded by constant bombardment of the already smashed city, with the UN giving the urgent warning that unless urgent steps are taken, within the next 48 hours, 14,000 babies will die.

It’s gotten to the point where even the most steadfast defenders of Israel have begun to look at themselves and wonder, “…are we the baddies?” Piers Morgan has had just such a moment over the past few weeks, culminating in a post responding to Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich apparently admitting to crimes against humanity.

Smotrich said Israel is only letting a minuscule amount of aid into Gaza “so the world does not stop us and accuse us of war crimes”, freely admits “we are annihilating everything that remains in the Strip”, and smugly boasting that “the world still hasn’t stopped us.” Morgan hasn’t minced his words, dubbing Smotrich a “genocidal maniac” and openly wondering “who will stop them?”:

This is quite an about-face for Morgan, who has previously been a firm supporter of Israel. He also directly criticized the Netanyahu regime, arguing that he finds it impossible to believe that the average Israeli wants to see babies starved to death in their name:

Now, as predictably as the sun rises each day, he’s being accused of gross antisemitism for his comments and is being forced to defend himself:

Anti-Israel sentiment grows

Morgan’s moment of clarity seems to be coming at the same time as many other people who were formerly supportive of Israel. Polls indicate that in the United States, support for Israel is plummeting while sympathy for Palestinians is reaching new highs. Sadly, the Trump administration is firmly locked in behind Netanyahu’s plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its residents and build a holiday resort on top of their bones.

Where we go from here is unknown, though it seems likely that widespread revulsion of Israel will continue to increase as the reality of what they’re inflicting on civilians sinks in. Whether that can ever translate into action against Israel or whether the “genocidal maniacs” that run the country will face consequences for their crimes remains to be seen.
