A drunk man ran away from the police - straight into a lamppost

A drunk man tried to run away from the police, but ended up being caught after running into a lamp post.

The man, who was wanted on suspicion of a series of offences including assaulting an emergency worker, ran off after being challenged by police community support officers.

But he was left 'screaming in pain' when his escape didn't quite go to plan.

Police in Rochdale shared details of the incident on social media.

They wrote: "Drunken male wanted for offences challenged by PCSOs in Castleton tonight - ran off and looking over his shoulder collided with a lamp post on Royle Barn Road and heard screaming in pain.

"Now in custody for assault, assault emergency service workers and racial public order."
