A big red semi in the suburbs of Ayr

There are a dozen red sandstone semis of the same design, split into two sixes by a  pair of white homes.

The precise reason for this is lost in history, but it mirrors the non uniform nature of homes on St Leonards Road in Ayr.

The road obviously gets its name from the church, built in 1886, which was named after the French saint Leonard.

Homes followed soon after including  cottages, one-and-a-half storeys and traditional twofloors.

Modern homes and flats have been built on gap sites in modern times.

It all adds up to an eclectic array of properties in a terrific southside spot just a mile from the town centre.

Number 50 is now for sale at offers over £250,000, sure to attract great interest for a four bedroom home.

The house looks like a forties Dickie build, and retains a lot of character from the era.

But the current owner has  carefully modernised the house and it is offered for sale in “walk in” condition.

Storm doors lead to a wide reception hall and the original staircase with wooden balustrade.

Agents Stonefield in Ayr say: “From the very moment you step into this property, you will fall in love with this beautiful home.”

You get a bay lounge with feature fire to the front, a sitting room at the back and a WC.

The kitchen features sliding doors through to the conservatory with a south western sunny aspect.

Upstairs are the four generous bedrooms, two front facing, and  a bigger than normal bathroom with separate shower.

There is no garage, but you can get outdoor pedestrian access to the back and there is space for two cars to be parked in the front garden.

The back garden is mature with patio, and enclosed by brick walls.

For viewing call Stonefield on 01292  501777, offers over £250,000.
