A 3-star offensive lineman, Marc Nave breaks down why he committed to Kentucky last month

Marc Nave gave his commitment to Kentucky a month ago. The offensive lineman had committed to Ohio State in early June.

It has been a whirlwind fall for Nave, an offensive lineman at Central Catholic (Toledo, Ohio). In late September, three months after he had verballed, Nave de-committed from Ohio State. By Nov. 16, Nave had given his verbal to Kentucky.

It was an opportunity, Nave said, that was a perfect fit for him.

“I would say the reason I committed to UK was because of the family atmosphere down there,” Nave told USA TODAY High School Sports.

“And the great opportunities presented to me that I wasn’t getting from other schools.”

Nave is ranked the No. 25 player in Ohio and the No. 45 interior offensive lineman in the nation according to 247Sports. He also held offers from Auburn, Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Louisville, Missouri, Pittsburgh and Purdue among others.

It is a bit of a gamble for Nave. Ohio State is, well, THE Ohio State, one of the blueblood programs of college football.

Kentucky is a strong program, but Nave said he needed to follow his heart in making this decision.

“For sure it was (a risk) but I think I made the right decision due to the fact that I felt like God had a different calling for me and another place where I would be more comfortable at,” Nave said.

“And Marrow (Vince Marrow, associate head coach at Kentucky) and the UK staff stayed in touch throughout my entire commitment to Ohio State so that showed how interested they were in me.”

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound interior offensive lineman plans to enroll at Kentucky in the summer.
