8 unique ideas on how to revive 'tired and tatty' Superlambanana

Dozens of people have come together to provide ideas on how to revive the 'tired and tatty' Superlambanana.

Concerns have been raised over the maintenance of the sculpture as confusion surrounds who is responsible for it.

Readers have been in touch with the  ECHO  to say how tatty and tired the Superlambanana, which sits on the corner of Tithebarn Street , in the  city centre  is looking.

It last received a bright yellow makeover in 2016 thanks to  Liverpool City Council  and local artist Julian Taylor, who was involved in the original installation of the artwork.

But three years on, it’s clearly in need of sprucing up.

The council has stated that they are no longer responsible for the artwork and that ownership was passed back to its Berlin-based creator, artist Taro Chiezo.

As a result of the confusion, the 17th structure has fallen into disrepair - but maybe there is a way to change that.

Here are some of the ways that ECHO readers think the Superlambanana can be revived.

8. Paint it blue and white

ECHO reader Ste1878 commented on our article to say that the Superlambanana could be used to pay homage to the Blue side of the city.

7. Paint it pink

A touching suggestion from reader Tenebos who said: "Couldn’t someone paint it pink as a one off in support of cancer charity.

"Then paint it back to yellow?

"The council made a lot of money when they had the 100 or so smaller ones around the city.

"Plus charities made a lot of money when they were auction off."

6. Give it over to the kids

One ECHO reader came up with an idea to keep the Superlambanana fresh and updated every few months.

Emma said: "Why not let the primary school kids paint it? Different city theme every few months or year?"

5. Give it the street artist touch

Similar to the above idea but in a city well known for its impress street art, one reader thinks they should get the chance to revive it.

RingPiece said: "Let street artists, paint it on a twelve month basis, and display their name near by, simples."

4. Claim it

One Twitter user has jokingly claimed the massive structure as his own and is now demanding payment for it.

Weeve said: "If nobody is responsible, then I’m going to claim it. It’s mine now.

"@lpoolcouncil can contact me to purchase it at a cost of £50,000."

3. Make it illegal to neglect it

On Facebook, Sian Stringer said: "Such a shame that I loved the buzz when we had all the little ones everywhere a few years ago - should deffo be maintained and be a legal requirement similar to listing of a building."

2. Give it the Pride treatment

Jerzysgloves said on the ECHO website said: "Tell you what throw it on Victoria street tomorrow I'm sure it will come back in all lovely vibrant and exhilarating colours."

1. Fund it ourselves

A number of people have suggested setting up a GoFundMe page to raise money to revive the Superlambanana for the city.
