7 tips from Ayurveda to control blood pressure naturally

The silent killer is as dangerous as it sounds and has become a common health issue today. While modern medicine provides various treatments, Ayurveda— which is considered to be a system of natural healing—offers ways to maintain healthy blood pressure levels. Ayurveda focuses on balancing the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and using natural remedies to support heart health.

If you're looking for safe, effective, and holistic ways to manage your blood pressure, here are seven Ayurvedic tips that actually work in real life!

Drink a garlic and warm water concoction every morning

Garlic (Lahsun) is considered a natural blood thinner in Ayurveda. It contains allicin, a compound that helps relax blood vessels and improve circulation. Drinking one crushed garlic clove with warm water on an empty stomach can help reduce hypertension naturally.

Eat soaked raisins for a natural BP balance

Ayurveda suggests soaking 8–10 black raisins overnight and eating them on an empty stomach in the morning. Raisins are rich in potassium, which helps reduce sodium levels, a major cause of high blood pressure.

Abhyanga (self-massage) with warm oils

Massaging your body with warm oil (Abhyanga) helps in reducing stress and calming the nervous system—two key factors in controlling blood pressure. Using sesame oil, almond oil, or Brahmi oil improves blood circulation and reduces hypertension naturally.

How to do it:

Warm up some oil and massage your scalp, neck, and feet before bedtime.

Let it sit for 20–30 minutes before taking a warm shower.

Start the day with Tulsi and lemon water

Drinking warm water infused with Tulsi (holy basil) and lemon juice is an Ayurvedic secret for heart health. Tulsi is known for its anti-inflammatory and stress-reducing properties, while lemon helps flush out excess sodium from the body.

How to make it:

Take 5–6 fresh Tulsi leaves and steep them in warm water.

Squeeze half a lemon and drink it on an empty stomach.

Follow the right “dinacharya” (daily routine)

In Ayurveda, an unhealthy routine can disturb the body’s natural rhythms, leading to high blood pressure. Following a structured lifestyle (Dinacharya) helps keep stress and BP levels in check.

Ayurvedic dinacharya for hypertension:

Wake up before 6 AM (morning sun exposure is great for blood circulation). Eat meals at fixed times (no skipping breakfast). Avoid screen exposure and heavy meals before bedtime. Sleep by 10 PM for proper rest.

Practice Sheetali and Anulom Vilom pranayama

Ayurveda strongly recommends breathwork (Pranayama) to calm the mind and balance blood pressure. Two powerful techniques include:

Sheetali pranayama: This cooling breath helps relax the nervous system and instantly reduces BP. Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing): Balances oxygen levels and reduces stress-induced hypertension.
