If you’re retired and on a fixed income, rising prices can have a significant impact on your budget. Before tariffs start affecting prices, now might be the time to stock up on some of your favorite items.
Here’s a list of Sam’s Club items you might want to buy now before prices rise.
Member’s Mark Deluxe Mixed Nuts
- Price: $13.98
Because many varieties of nuts we consume are grown outside the United States, it may be a good idea to start stocking up on these items, which have a long shelf life. Containers of Member’s Mark Deluxe mixed nuts are a great choice if you like a variety since they include cashews, almonds, pecans, pistachios and macadamia nuts.
Reebok Men’s Zig Running Shoe
- Price: $29.98
With most shoes being produced outside the United States, there is a good chance that prices will increase if they haven’t already. If you need a new pair of running shoes, Sam’s Club has Reebok men’s Zig running shoes for under $30. There are a few colors to choose from.
Avocados
- Price: $4.13
Avocados are a great addition to meals and can even make for a healthy snack. However, since most avocados are imported from Mexico, the price is likely to increase. You can pick up a five-pack of avocados from Sam’s Club for less than $5.
The downside to avocados is that they have a pretty short lifespan before they start to spoil. Luckily, there is a lot of helpful information available online about how to freeze avocados to extend their shelf life.
Member’s Mark Wild Caught Chilean Seabass
- Price: $26.98 per pound
An NPR article discussed how a lot of the seafood we eat comes from outside the United States. This includes countries like Chile, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. If your dinner planning frequently includes seafood, you might want to consider this Member’s Mark Chilean seabass.
Seabass is one of my favorites, but it can be expensive. Buying it now and freezing it will help avoid further price increases.
Coffee
- Price: $14.98
Most of the coffee consumed in the U.S. comes from either Brazil or Colombia. If you are a coffee lover like me, you might want to start stockpiling coffee before prices begin to rise. Just make sure you purchase whole beans because they stay fresh longer than ground coffee. Sam’s Club has a 40-ounce package of Member’s Mark Medium Roast coffee for under $15.
Bananas
- Price: 49 cents per pound
Most of the bananas come from either Guatemala or Costa Rica. If you use bananas a lot for cooking, you might want to pick up a couple of bundles from Sam’s Club and stick them in the freezer. Similar to avocados, this will help extend their shelf life.
Member’s Mark Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels
- Price: $12.88
One of my guilty pleasures in life is chocolate. For me, it’s a great way to wrap up my day. Unfortunately, most chocolate producer get their cocoa beans from places like the Ivory Coast and Ecuador. To protect against a potential price increase, it may be a good time to stock up on these sweet treats. You can buy a 36-ounce container of Member’s Mark Sea Salt Caramels for under $13.
Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
