7 player connections to Cardinals in Bills-Texans wild-card game

The Arizona Cardinals did not make it to the postseason but Arizona Cardinals fans can see a few former Cardinals players in the playoffs. The first playoff game of the weekend is between Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans. Between the two teams, there are seven former Cardinals.

Let’s check out who they are.

Bills LB Lorenzo Alexander

Alexander spent two seasons with the Cardinals in 2013-2014. He became a pretty good pass rusher when he got to Buffalo. He had 50 tackles and two sacks in 2019.

Bills QB Matt Barkley

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Barkley never appeared in a game but was the Cardinals’ third-string quarterback in 2015. They traded for him before the season and he was inactive most of the season. He is Buffalo’s backup quarterback.

Brown was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the third round in 2014 and played four seasons for them. He had over 1,000 yards in his second season but his time was marked by injury troubles related to his sickle cell trait. He set a career-high with 72 catches for 1,060 yards for the Bills this season.

Bills WR Andre Roberts

Roberts was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round in 2010 and spent four seasons with the team. He is mostly a return specialist. He had three catches for 20 yards but averaged 8.0 yards per punt return and 26.6 yards per kick return.

In 2018, he was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro as a returner for the Jets.

Texans TE Darren Fells

Fells played three seasons for the Cardinals after playing professional basketball. He has bounced around for three seasons with three different teams but has been productive. For the Texans, he caught 34 passes for 341 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 starts.

Texans G Senio Kelemete

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals drafted Kelemete in the fifth round in 2012 and he stuck with the team only one season. He famously had a 10-yard reception in the Cardinals’ 58-0 loss to the Seahawks off a tipped pass. He started 14 games in 2018 for the Texans but in 2019 started once and got hurt. He is on injured reserve.

Texans S Jonathan Owens

Cardinals Training Camp 2019

Owens was an undrafted rookie in 2018 for the Cardinals who got hurt and landed on injured reserve. He played well in training camp this year but was cut before joining the Texans. He is on their practice squad.
