Buying a car is an expensive commitment. Hopefully, you’re investing your hard-earned money in a vehicle that will be a part of your life for the next decade. That isn’t always the case, but some used cars can go the distance.

Here are the cars experts recommended that will cost less than $20,000 for a used model and last 200,000 miles or more.
Honda Civic
Melanie Musson is an auto industry expert with AutoInsurance.org and said a Civic is a great car to buy used because it’s built to last.
“Part of the reason a Civic retains its value so well is that it lasts longer than the average vehicle,” Musson said. “It requires only routine maintenance, and since they’re straightforward to maintain, you can find a competitive mechanic able to work on it.”
Musson recommended looking at 2018 or 2019 models that have 60,000 or so miles on them. These will typically cost right around $20,000.

Honda Accord
Another Honda makes the list for its long-term reliability and performance. Experts also point out that it’s easy to repair, so maintenance costs are low.
“Its parts are readily available,” Carl Rodriguez, head of content creation at NX Automotive Transport, said. He added that even a 2013 Honda Accord won’t feel dated.
“I personally think its comfortable interior and seats especially were so ahead of its time, they don’t even fall short by today’s standards,” Rodriguez noted.
Subaru Forester
Musson recommended the Forester because even with 80,000 miles on it, it still has a long life ahead.
“Drivers needing an affordable AWD vehicle that will last them for years should consider a Forester,” she said.
Carvana showed that Foresters selling for $20,000 will typically have 60,000 miles or more.
Toyota RAV4
“The RAV4 is a reliable vehicle that has a reputation for reaching high mileage with regular maintenance,” Musson said. “[It] has excellent safety features, good fuel efficiency and advanced technology.”
She advised looking at 2017 and 2018 models to find one in the $20,000 price range.
Mazda6
Rodriguez recommended the Mazda6 not only for its performance, but for its low price point.
“It’s probably the only car in the top-tier used vehicles category that I would say you can find below $15,000,” he said.
Rodriguez added that even at that low price, it still looks great.
“It’s sleek, simple and performs, which is why you’ll often find even relatively young users don’t find issues with its appearance,” he concluded.
