The summer heat is settling in, and so is a sizzling wave of new shows premiering this week on Netflix, Prime Video and more of the best streaming services, as well as broadcast and cable TV. It’s a lineup that feels equal parts steamy and stormy.
This week brings Carley Fortune’s romance "Every Year After," which leans into sun-drenched yearning. "Sweet Magnolias" season 5 returns to Serenity with its signature mix of friendship and family drama. "The Listeners" hums with an eerie, slow-burn mystery, while "Grantchester" arrives at its final season with faith, crime-solving and loose ends all coming to a head.
Here's our guide to what's new on TV this week.
‘Alice and Steve’ (Hulu)
The vibes: “Beef,” but make it a middle-aged friendship meltdown.
The plot: “Sex Education” writer Sophie Goodhart is behind this British "wrong-com" starring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement as lifelong best friends whose bond implodes when Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter, Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). What begins as understandable outrage quickly spirals into a petty, escalating war, complete with cringe-worthy dinner parties, public humiliation and plenty of emotional collateral damage. A romantic break-up is a piece of cake compared to a platonic one.
Premiere date: All 6 episodes on Monday, June 8 at 12 a.m. ET
Where to watch: Hulu
‘Every Year After’ (Prime Video)
The vibes: All the ingredients of “The Summer I Turned Pretty" — teen love, heartbreak, waterside setting.
The plot: Prime Video continues its page-to-screen romance streak with this adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestseller. Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) returns to the lake town she left behind years ago, only to find herself face-to-face with Sam Florek (Matt Cornett), the first love she never quite got over. Moving between flashbacks of dreamy summers past and a much messier present day, the show asks: What if the one that got away was actually The One?
Premiere date: All 8 episodes on Wednesday, June 10 at 3 a.m. ET
Where to watch: Prime Video
‘Sweet Magnolias’ season 5 (Netflix)
The vibes: Small-town comfort TV takes a surprise detour to the bright lights of the big city.
The plot: Season 5 finds Serenity’s favorite ride-or-die besties chasing bigger dreams. Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) settles into a publishing job in New York, Helen (Heather Headley) and Erik (Dion Johnstone) finally head toward the altar, and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) throws herself into launching a teaching kitchen. Back home, Annie (Anneliese Judge) is figuring out who she is without her longtime almost-boyfriend.
Premiere date: All 10 episodes on Thursday, June 11 at 3 a.m. ET
Where to watch: Netflix
‘The Listeners’ (Starz)
The vibes: Like being haunted by the world’s worst ringtone.
The plot: Adapted by Jordan Tannahill from his novel, this psychological thriller miniseries stars Rebecca Hall as Claire, a teacher whose life begins to unravel when she begins to hear a low hum that nobody else can detect. The noise triggers migraines and insomnia and creates tension at home. Then, she discovers a student (Ollie West) can hear it too. Their shared obsession leads them to a community convinced the hum isn’t a malfunction — it’s a calling.
Premiere date: Episode 1 on Friday, June 12 at 9 p.m. ET

‘Grantchester’ season 11 (PBS)
The vibes: The summer of ’63 marks the end of an era.
The plot: In the final season of the British detective drama, summer 1963 finds everyone at a crossroads in Cambridgeshire. Alphy (Rishi Nair) questions his faith and grows closer to Meg (Christie Russell-Brown), but things could be railed when he becomes a suspect in a locked-room train mystery. Geordie (Robson Green) faces a promotion that could end his partnership with Alphy. Change is coming to Grantchester and
