5 golfers who shockingly missed the cut at the 2023 Masters

We’re officially through two rounds of play at the 2023 Masters, which means a large portion of the field is already heading home.

The cut came into play on Friday afternoon and anyone who finished 3-over-par or better made it through to the weekend. Anyone with a worse score was sent packing.

Masters Leaderboard: Live leaderboard, Schedule, Tee times

A number of big names like Brooks Koepka (12-under) and Jon Rahm (10-under) remain at the top of the leaderboard, but there were some big surprises among those who didn’t make the cut.

Here are five shockers who will have to wait at least another year before playing at Augusta National again.

McIlroy was one of the favorites heading into the week at +700 to win his first green jacket — the only major he needs to complete the career grand slam.

Welp, he’ll have to try again next year.

McIlroy shot 72-77 (149) to finish 5-over.

Justin Thomas

Thomas had never missed a cut in eight starts at Augusta. Until Saturday morning.

The 29-year-old had a heartbreaking end to his second round, finishing bogey-bogey to go from safely inside the cut to on the outside looking in. He ends his 2023 Masters with rounds of 70 and 78.

Augusta National continues to get the best of DeChambeau, who has now missed the cut in back-to-back years.

The LIV Golf member went 74-74 (148) to finish 4-over par. He’s never placed better than T29 at the 2019 Masters since turning pro.

Bubba Watson

A rough go of it for the former two-time Masters champion and current LIV Golf player.

Watson hadn’t missed the cut at Augusta since 2018. His four-year streak comes to an end after shooting 77-76 (153)

Tom Hoge

Hoge’s second time playing Augusta resulted in a short stay at the Masters.

He just barely missed the cut with back-to-back rounds of 74 to finish 4-over par. Considering his success on the PGA Tour this year (seven Top 25 finishes, four Top 10 finishes), it’s certainly a surprise to see the course get the better of him.
