KORAPUT: Five persons were killed and several injured when a private bus overturned near Yedugurallapalli under Chinturu mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district in the early hours of Monday. While three persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital. Three of the deceased were kids aged between two and five years. All of them hailed from Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts. The bus, carrying about 40 passengers, was on its way from Bhawanipatna to Vijayawada .
Five from state killed in bus accident in Andhra Pradesh
Five persons were killed and several injured when a private bus overturned near Yedugurallapalli under Chinturu mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district in the early hours of Monday.
While three persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital. Three of the deceased were kids aged between two and five years. All of them hailed from Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts in neighbouring Odisha.
The bus, carrying about 40 passengers, was on its way from Bhawanipatna in Odisha to Vijayawada when the driver lost control at a turning and overturned. All passengers in the bus were migrant labourers who were going to Vijayawada in search of work.
One of the passengers said the driver was drunk and overspeeding when the accident happened. He said there was also an argument between the driver and conductor of the bus after the latter asked him to stop the bus somewhere for the night and drive in the morning.
"We are investigating if the driver was drunk. Most of the passengers were migrant labourers from Odisha," police said.
The ill-fated private bus, Sangeetha travels bearing registration number CG-27-M-3148, started from Senapalli village near Bhawanipatna for Vijayawada. The bus stopped at Malkangiri for dinner at about 9 pm. The accident happened at a sharp turn near Yedugurallapalli village at about 2 am, when the driver failed to control the bus after hitting a clay mound beside the road and turned turtle.
The deceased were identified as Daneswar Dalapathi (24) from Kalahandi district, Jeetu Harijan (5), Sunena Harijan (2) from Nabarangpur, Kotamai Mahee (4) and Dhomrae (32) from Nuapada. Of the injured, the condition of six is said to be critical.
