4p drink could help reduce the painful symptoms of arthritis

Arthritis affects around 10 million people across the UK, but a healthy diet and a hot drink can help you ease the pain it causes.

Whilst there isn’t a cure for arthritis there are ways that you can help reduce the risk of painful symptoms.

According to experts, there are various arthritis-friendly foods that sufferers can incorporate into their diet, reports Leicestershire Live.

And one drink, which works out about 4p a serving, is among the best, The Express has reported.

Green tea has been hailed for its many health benefits. From aiding weight loss to clearing up your skin, this drink has many medicinal qualities.

The drink - which costs 75p for 20 teabags at Tesco - can reduce the symptoms of arthritis. It is full of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that can reduce inflammation and may even slow the rate of cartilage damage that leads to pain.

And because green tea can help boost your metabolism it can assist with weight loss, which can also help to take some of the pressure off your joints.

What other foods can help reduce arthritis symptoms?

In addition to introducing cups of green tea to your diet, try adding some of these foods for an arthritis-friendly diet:

  • Oily fish

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Dairy

  • Dark leafy greens

  • Broccoli

  • Garlic

  • Nuts

What causes osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis typically develops in people over the age of 40, and is most common in women.

Osteoarthritis affects the cartilage - the flexible tissue lining your joints - making your joints stiff and painful.

In severe cases, where the cartilage becomes drastically worn down, it can mean bones rub on bone which is not only excruciatingly painful, but can warp the shape of the joint and push bones from their position.

Osteoarthritis most commonly affects people’s:

  • Hands

  • Spine

  • Knees

  • Hips
