49ers' Richard Sherman launching daily fantasy sports game

Richard Sherman jumped into the daily fantasy sports game Thursday when the 49ers cornerback announced he'll launch a daily fantasy sports site.

Sherman, who will make his long-awaited 49ers debut on Saturday, said he and co-founder Tom McAuley have designed Daily Number, a website they say will make it easier for casual fans to play daily fantasy sports.

Unlike traditional daily fantasy contests, Daily Number won't have bettors competing against each other. Entrants will choose seven-player rosters that must surpass a predetermined fantasy point total set by the site. While there's no limit to which players bettors select, the payoffs for beating the "Daily Number" are determined by your roster's overall rating _ higher-rated rosters get lower payouts.

"We're simplifying the DFS format for the everyday sports fan while maintaining the core gameplay principals that have made fantasy sports so massively popular," said McAuley, Daily Number's CEO.

McAuley didn't need much help convincing Sherman to become his partner in the project.

"Daily Number is a game-changer," Sherman said. "I've been pitched numerous DFS opportunities, but nothing has even come close to comparing to Daily Number. I'm extremely excited to be a founding partner and look forward to playing an active role in helping the company grow during this very dynamic time in our industry."

Sherman's site will run paid contests in 23 states, many of which have either legalize sports betting or have bills introduced to legalize it.

However, having an active player jumping into daily sports gambling may raise some questions in the NFL. The league, however, didn't respond to questions about Sherman's website, according to ESPN.
