MADURAI/TRICHY: Active Covid-19 cases crossed 2,800 in the ten southern districts of the state after 448 new cases were reported on Saturday. For the first time, Tirunelveli recorded more than 100 fresh cases in a day. With 112 cases, the active cases in the district rose to 606 cases on Saturday. Trichy recorded 58 fresh cases on Saturday reflecting the number of active cases coming down to 651 on Saturday from 665 on Friday. The district discharged 73 patients on Saturday. In Madurai, a total of 33 new Covid-19 cases and 51 recoveries were recorded on Saturday pushing down the number of active cases to 301. Tuticorin recorded 84 fresh cases, followed by Kanyakumari, 60, Tenkasi, 37, Madurai, 33, Virudhunagar, 32, Dindigul, 26, Sivaganga, 25, Theni, 25, and Ramanathapuram, 14.
The nine central districts posted 177 fresh cases and 146 recoveries. The number of active cases of the region climbed to 1,278 on Saturday.
