400 artists pull their music from streaming platforms in Israel over Gaza genocide

MASSIVE Attack, Kneecap and Primal Scream are among 400 artists and labels who have backed a campaign to pull their music from streaming platforms in Israel over the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The “No Music For Genocide” campaign has seen hundreds of musicians, along with their labels, from across the world geo-block and remove their music from being accessed in Israel, as campaigners warn the cultural boycott is “just the beginning”.

Among those involved in the boycott are Kneecap, Massive Attack, Rina Sawayama, Fontaines D.C., MIKE, Primal Scream, Faye Webster, King Krule, and Japanese Breakfast.

The coalition is urging major groups like Sony, UMG, and Warner to back the boycott, as those behind the campaign highlighted that the labels blocked their entire catalogs in Russia one month into the invasion of Ukraine.

“Culture can’t stop bombs on its own, but it can help reject political repression, shift public opinion toward justice, and refuse the art-washing and normalization of any company or nation that commits crimes against humanity,” a statement from the No Music For Genocide campaign website read.

“This initiative is one part of a worldwide movement to erode the support Israel needs to continue its genocide. We’re inspired by the escalating efforts in pursuit of that goal, from the recent Film Workers For Palestine pledge to Spain’s ban of Israel-bound ships and planes to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to Demilitarize Brooklyn Navy Yard to dockworkers in Morocco who’ve refused to load weapons onto vessels ordered by Tel Aviv.”

Other artists who have joined the campaign include Arca, Maryam Saleh, Kelela, Oklou, Yaeji, Ana Tijoux, Annahstasia, Amyl And The Sniffers, MJ Lenderman, Nadah El Shazly, Eartheater, Erika de Casier, Bayonet Records, Fat Tony, Mannequin Pussy, Liv.e, Mechatok, Redveil, HorsegiirL, Chanel Beads, Wednesday, PAN, Nick León, Escho, Saul Williams, Yeule.

The campaign’s statement added that the boycott is a “tangible act” that brings the world Palestinian demands to isolate and delegitimise Israel’s genocide “one step closer”.

Campaigners also reference the successful cultural boycott against apartheid South Africa, stating that creative work grants “agency and power”.

The statement continued: “Many of our peers have felt, like ourselves, unsure how to use music in this moment. Our first goal with No Music For Genocide is to inspire others to reclaim their agency and direct their influence toward a tangible act.

“We are so grateful for all of the artists, managers and labels who have already committed to this first step, and we’re excited to expand this together. The more of us there are, the stronger we will be. This is just the beginning.”

It comes after an inquiry by the United Nations (UN) found that Israel has committed genocide in Palestine.

In the report Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, president Isaac Herzog and former defence minister Yoav Gallant were all named as inciting acts of genocide.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have killed almost 65,000 Palestinians and destroyed most of the territory’s healthcare infrastructure. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OCHR) found that at least 46% of those killed since then were women and children.

Deaths of women and children have comprised nearly 60% of total fatalities from March 18 to March 25 2025, after Israel broke an agreed ceasefire.
