4 Vikings things our staff is thankful for

The Minnesota Vikings are quite an interesting franchise. They have sent the fans and those covering the team on a multitude of roller coaster rides throughout their 63-year history.

As we look back and reflect on both this and the entirety of the franchise, our staff at Vikings Wire talked about what we are thankful for with the franchise.

I have been a Vikings fan for most of my nearly 34 years of life. My first memories of the team had my favorite player of all-time Warren Moon at quarterback, but the 1998 season was the genesis of what my fandom is today. The main reason for that? Randy Moss.

The wide receivers we have had the privilege of watching over the last 30 years have been a list of excellent players.

  • Cris Carter
  • Jake Reed
  • Randy Moss
  • Nate Burleson
  • Percy Harvin
  • Sidney Rice
  • Stefon Diggs
  • Adam Thielen
  • Justin Jefferson
  • Jordan Addison

While some are more impressive than others, that is one very impressive list and the Vikings have arguably the best history at wide receiver in the National Football League. It has sparked my love for this team, the sport and the position of wide receiver.

This one is simple: The Vikings. I’ve been covering this team on a full-time basis since 2005 and have been watching them since 1978. The one thing this franchise never has been is boring. The Vikings might not always be successful, and they certainly can be maddening, but there is always something interesting going on with this team. Ownership, coaches and players can change but that’s one thing that doesn’t and it’s a reason to be thankful.

The opportunity to cover this team. After last season, I had no idea what to make of this iteration of the Vikings. But after only four months of covering them, there is no question that this is a special group. Their ability to overcome adversity, no matter the form, is inspirational to say the least.

But I’m also thankful for the opportunity to work with such an amazing team of writers here at Vikings Wire. Thankful for my beautiful wife and daughter who give me the motivation to write about the sport I love. And I thank everyone who is reading this for making this opportunity possible. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and SKOL Vikings!

The opportunity to expand my coverage and step outside of my comfort zone. I started on my football media journey back in 2016 doing mostly NFL draft coverage, primarily from a Miami Dolphins-centric angle. A lot of my content since then has been primarily in those two spheres, and I had been wanting to branch out into other areas for awhile.

Landing this opportunity with Vikings Wire has given me the chance to step outside of my comfort zone and focus on a new team, and there hasn’t been a dull moment since I started. Through the trudges of the 0-3 start and the bevy of turnovers, through the 5-game win streak and the emergence of “The Passtronaut”, it’s been a wild ride. I’m thankful that Tyler and USA Today have given me the chance to be a part of the coverage of that ride, and I can’t wait to see what the remainder of the season has in store for you, us, and the Minnesota Vikings.
