Cre’Von LeBlanc is missing from Eagles training camp as he rehabs from a mysterious foot injury suffered just days into the start of the 2019 season. LeBlanc was signed by the Eagles off waivers last season and played an integral part in the birds late-season march into the playoffs.
It was initially estimated that LeBlanc could be looking at an absence of about a month, but now according to Derek Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the slot cornerback could be dealing with a more serious injury. Gunn is reporting that LeBlanc has a Lisfranc sprain, the same injury that cost Jalen Mills the bulk of last season.
Cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc has a Lisfranc sprain, according to league sources. It’s the same type of injury Jalen Mills suffered in 2018, which required season-ending surgery. In LeBlanc’s case, he will not require surgery.
The Eagles are hoping to have LeBlanc back by mid-to-late September, but because every player heals differently, there’s a possibility he could be out until November.
LeBlanc was expected to battle for extensive playing time this season. With the news that he could miss an extended period of time, here are four takeaways from his possible season altering injury.
1. What is a Lisfranc injury
also known as Lisfranc fracture, it’s when one or more of the metatarsal bones are displaced from the tarsus. The recovery time is about 6 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of the injury.
2. LeBlanc’s roster spot could be in jeopardy
Depending on the severity of his injury, LeBlanc could be a candidate for waivers or release as the 53 man cut down approaches. Rasul Douglas has ascended, Sidney Jones seems to have arrived and Avonte Maddox is a hidden gem that’s prepared to blossom. That’s on top of Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby still set to return.
3. LeBlanc’s rehab seems to be progressing well
The Eagles cornerback was recently filmed rehabbing his injury and he didn’t look like a player that’s set to miss an insurmountable amount of time this season.
4. Eagles medical staff under fire again.
Ronald Darby is recovering from an ACL tear while Jalen Mills is coming off a similar foot injury if not worse than LeBlanc’s. Something has to be said for the Eagles medical staff or at least, how they do business when it concerns the team’s cornerbacks.
