The NFL schedule makers did the Pittsburgh Steelers no favors in 2019. Despite coming off of a 9-6-1 record and no playoffs, the Steelers’ slate of games sets up to be brutal. This is particularly true of the team’s road trips.
Here are the four scariest road games on the Steelers’ schedule.
Week 1 at New England Patriots
Nothing like getting this one out of the way first. The Steelers and Patriots seem to square off every season and for the most part, the Patriots have gotten the best of the Steelers. There are two ways to look at getting New England on the road in Week 1. It could be a case of the Steelers devoting a ton of time preparing for the Patriots and winning, therefore setting them on a path for the rest of the season. Or they do all this and lose and spend several weeks trying to recover.
Week 3 at San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers might not seem like the most daunting opponent but it is about situational football. The Steelers travel out to San Francisco in Week 3 after a two-game stretch of the Patriots on the road and the Seattle Seahawks in the home opener. The Steelers haven’t been great on the West Coast under head coach Mike Tomlin and this one could be coming off of a rough start to the year.
Week 11 at Cleveland Browns

If you believe the national media, the best team in the AFC North might just be the Browns. There’s no denying this team is much improved over recent Browns squads. They have their franchise quarterback and have surrounded Baker Mayfield with elite skill players. The Steelers travel to Cleveland in Week 11 after what should be brutal road showdown with the Los Angeles Rams.
Week 17 at Baltimore Ravens

The NFL makes every Week 17 game an interesting one by lining them all up as division matchups. This year, the Steelers draw the Ravens in Baltimore and we should all just assume the playoffs – or at least playoff seeding – will be on the line. The Ravens have a whole new look with Lamar Jackson at quarterback and always give the Steelers everything they’ve got.
