If you’re heading to Lowe’s, these expert-backed tips can help you save big on everything from paint to plants.
Use Lowe’s Price Match To Get the Best Deals
“Lowe’s is a great place for homeowners and renters alike to get everything they need to spruce up their spot,” said Melanie Lowe, chief savings expert at CouponCabin. “While they don’t always offer the lowest price, their price match guarantee means you can ensure you’ll never miss out on savings — so long as you’re keeping an eye on costs from similar stores.”
With Lowe’s “Lowest Price Guarantee,” if you find a current lower price on an identical in-stock item from another local retailer, it will match the price. Simply show the website, ad, printout or photo to an associate.

Pay Attention to Lowe’s Color-Coded Sales Tags
Lowe’s uses color-coded sales tags that can indicate how good a deal you are getting.
“Knowing the difference in discounts between yellow and red tags could be the difference between a few dollars and a hefty chunk of change,” Lowe said.
Yellow indicates permanent markdowns on items with limited inventory. “These are great deals,” Lowe said.
Red tags represent weekly sales and are typically found on popular items like appliances. However, these discounts aren’t always so remarkable.
“Look for discounts of 30% more before buying,” Lowe said.
Return Dead Plants for Store Credit — Up to a Year Later
Lowe’s has different return windows for different categories of products. For trees, shrubs and perennials, you have a full year to return your purchase.
“If you purchase [certain] plants at Lowe’s and they die within a year of the purchase, you can exchange them for store credit to buy another,” Lowe said. “All you have to do is keep the receipt!”
Plants that do not fall into the category of trees, shrubs and perennials still have a generous 90-day return window.
Score Discount Paint From the Mis-Tint Section
Lowe’s offers a 30-day “Paint Color Guarantee” that allows shoppers to return paint that they are not satisfied with within 30 days of purchasing. Some of these paints end up being resold at a steep discount.
“It’s not for everyone, but Lowe’s has a ‘mis-tint’ section in their paint aisle,” Lowe said. “If you’re willing to get shades that others discarded, you can score up to 70% off paint and give your home a new look for less.”
