PATNA: Altogether 366 new water sources have been created in the state capital while work on others is in progress.
“The measures taken under the Jal Jeevan Hariyali (JJH) mission is aimed at recharging the ground water by developing new ponds, including those on private lands in the district, said Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh on Wednesday, while reviewing the progress made by different departments under JJH, one of the most ambitious programmes of the state government.
“Besides these, so far 575 schemes of rejuvenating water bodies like ponds, aahars and payens have been completed. While there has been remarkable progress in rooftop rain water harvesting as 1374 works related to it have already been done in the district,” the DM said. He said the soak pits with larger area made for trapping the rain waters would be a major source of recharging ground water.
These works were done by different departments, including education, health, rural development, building construction and urban bodies. He said over 9.85 lakh sapling plantations have also been done for widening the green area in the district under the JJH mission.
The DM further reviewed the progress made in use of solar energy, organic farming and freeing of government water bodies from encroachment in the district. He asked the officials concerned to identify all other water bodies which are still under encroachment and undertake action to make them free at the earliest.
He also asked the officials of several departments to upload the photographs of all these developmental works on the government portal within a week. He asked them to expeditiously carry out the works for reaching the target.
