Selecting the best script fonts can elevate any design project. Injecting a touch of elegance and personality to everything from wedding invitations, websites to brochures and branding. And luckily for those with a budget of zero, there are many free options that rival the quality of premium typefaces.  

To help you find the perfect one, we've brought together 15 of the best free script fonts in one place, showcasing a variety of styles from classic calligraphy to modern brush strokes. Each font has been carefully chosen for its versatility, readability and aesthetic appeal. 

The fonts listed below were free at least for personal use at the time of publication. Some are also free for commercial use – but just make sure you check the conditions on each font. 01. Brushberry

Produced at My Creative Land, Brushberry is a pretty but bold typeface that would work perfectly for wedding or party invitations. This delightful font highlights the beauty of calligraphy.  

Brushberry has three different styles to choose from and is cleared for both personal and commercial use. 

02. Sant’Elia Rough

This font has a retro, vintage feel creating a real sense of nostalgia. Ideal for advertising and leaflets, this script has a distinct style that is sure to garner attention.

The creator Ryan Martinson has crafted a range of designs that have featured in campaigns across different media streams such as American Express, Wholefoods and the National Geographic Channel. 

03. Choko Milky

Choko Milky is a free script font that's bursting with personality. With its bold bubbly style, it's perfect for adding a dose of retro appeal to your projects. 04. Satisfy

05. America

You don't see a lot of free fonts based on hit songs, but here's the exception. Inspired by Childish Gambino’s This is America, it boasts large dramatic capitals and a natural flowing stroke. This bold textured script font features a full upper- and lower-case character set, plus several alternate characters.

07. Raindy Monoline

Raindy Monoline is a heavy yet adorable script font. With its looping, joined glyphs and soft curves, it's perfect for cutesy projects that need a cheerful feel, and will add an element of calm too. A good option for branding projects, logos, wedding designs, social media posts, advertisements and product packaging. 

08. Hoodson Script

Hoodson Script is one of our favourite free script fonts for logos, packaging and posters

With a bouncy baseline and a bonus Swash set, this free script font packs plenty of punch and personality into every curve. Hoodson Script is the work of Hendra Maulia and is suitable for logos, handwritten quotes, product packaging, header, posters, merchandise and greeting cards.

09. Serendipity

Of all the free cursive fonts we've spotted of late, Serendipity is one of the most inspired. Created by The HungryJPEG and featuring more than 90 hand-drawn characters, it enables you to add a dash of originality and individuality to your lettering and logo designs.  

10. Vegan Style

Looking for more free script fonts that evoke a young and trendy feel? Vegan Style, created by Billy Argel in 2018, blends boldness with beauty to create something fresh and original. Supporting 280 characters, this font is partial and free to download for personal use only.

11. Alex Brush

There's a beautiful flow to this brush script, which was created by designer Rob Leuschke of TypeSETit. Alex Brush features short ascenders and descenders, allowing a legibility not seen in many other script fonts.

12. La Sonnambula

Designed by Fernando Haro, La Sonnambula is a handwritten and extended font that's been designed with calligraphic texts and elegant titles in mind. It's named after an opera by Vincenzo Bellini, performed by Maria Callas in Milan in 1957. Yet despite its classic roots, it's bang up to date, even including a Bitcoin symbol. 

13. Noelan

Created by the team at Ndroadv, Noelan is at the quirkier end of free fonts. The script includes several alternates and international characters, so is easy for mixing and matching. Modern in its design Noelan would be ideal for wedding or party invitations. 

14. Grand Hotel

Grand Hotel has a classic weight and subtlety that makes you think of artisan signage and craft, but its cursive lowercase lends itself to a host of different uses. This most refined of free script fonts was designed by Brian J Bonislawsky and Jim Lyles for Astigmatic. 

15. Pregnancy Journey

Pregnancy Journey is charming single line font that's perfect for a multitude of projects. As suggested by the namesake it's perfect for baby shower invites or pregnancy announcements due to its soft cursive lettering. It has a tasteful bespoke appeal that's also good for wedding invites.
