30 test positive for Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu, 16 from Chennai

CHENNAI: There has been a marginal increase in the number of new Covid-19 infections in Tamil Nadu as 30 people tested positive for the virus on Sunday. Among them, 16 were from Chennai. This included two clusters -- six from a family in Thiruvanmiyur and a Korean family, which had returned from Mauritius after a tour, said state health department authorities.

However, a brisk recovery rate has helped in keeping the number of active cases in the district below 100. At present, 96 patients in Chennai are undergoing treatment for the disease and among them only nine are admitted in hospitalis. The remaining patients with mild symptoms like fever or cold are undergoing treatment at their homes.

In total, Tamil Nadu has 228 active cases -- an 86% drop compared to the same day last month. Following Chennai, its neighbouring district of Chengalpattu has the second highest number of active cases (30). Three people got infected here in the last 24 hours. Of the 38 districts in the state, not a single person tested positive in 29 districts. No covid fatalities were reported in TN for the 23rd consecutive day and the cumulative death toll remained unchanged at 38,025. Health minister Ma Subramanian said that despite a drop in cases and deaths, it was important to follow Covid protocols.
