If you are like many NFL fans, you have discovered the new XFL is something of a guilty pleasure as you wait for the NFL season to get going again. One of the best parts of the XFL is some create rule changes to immerse fans in the experience more and create a more exciting experience. Here are three I’d love to see in the NFL.
Kickoff rules
The NFL is always going on about player safety and kickoffs. Well, the XFL has fixed it. Not only are kickoffs in the XFL infinitely safer but they offer opportunities for more exciting returns. By freezing the kick coverage team directly opposite the return team at the 35-yard line it eliminates running starts and gives the return man a chance to take a touchback or go for a big run back.
Extra point options

No more kicking extra points. Instead, players will run an offensive play from either the two, five or ten-yard line. The corresponding points values are one, two or three. I love the idea of not only taking the kickers out of the mix completely but the idea of giving the offense a shot at three points after a score is a tremendous innovation with so many close NFL games.
Replay transparency

While I loathe sticking microphones and cameras in the faces of players and coaches during the game the idea of transparency for the replay official is something I enjoy. Hearing the official go through his rationale while you can see what he’s seeing is nice and something the NFL would likely never have the guts to implement.
