The Philadelphia Eagles added another player to their cornerback room, signing former Dallas Cowboys corner Orlando Scandrick to a one year deal. Scandrick was brought in for a workout and visit in the wake of the foot injury suffered by corner Cre’Von LeBlanc on Thursday.
With the Eagles hurting at cornerback again, here are 4 takeaways from the Scandrick signing.
1. Cre’Von LeBlanc is injured and not set to be traded
The initial thought was that LeBlanc was being held out of Eagles practices because of a potential trade. After LeBlanc was spotted in a walking boot, that claim proved to be untrue. What is true is LeBlanc suffered a sprained foot and will miss several weeks of time.
2. Scandrick could end up being more than just a camp body
Say what you want about the veteran cornerback, but Orlando Scandrick has been a part of some huge NFC matchups during his time in Dallas. Scandrick, 32, played 10 seasons for the Cowboys then spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Scandrick has started 76 games and appeared in 140 during his career, so he won’t be afraid of the lights if asked to play.
3. It’s too early for panic to kick in
For any Eagles fans yelling Deja Vu, don’t fret, as this is only the first week of training camp. Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills will eventually return. Sidney Jones has had a great start to his training camp and Avonte Maddox is the real deal. The Eagles will be fine in the secondary once everyone is deemed healthy.
