3 takeaways from Hibs and Celtic's drab 0-0 draw as Scott Brown bids farewell

John Kennedy and his Celtic side put in another underwhelming display against Hibs this afternoon as both sides played out a drab 0-0 draw at Easter Road.

The Hoops had the better of the opening 45 minutes, with several chances for Mohamed Elyounoussi and Odsonne Edouard, and it looked like the Frenchman had opened the scoring from a free-kick just before the break, only for referee Willie Collum to inexplicably demand the set-piece be retaken.

In truth, Celtic didn't deserve much more from the game than a point, with the second-half slowed to a snail's pace with the match reminiscent of a testimonial or pre-season friendly.

Hibs weren't particularly great in an attacking sense either but at least Jack Ross 's side had the excuse of making several changes ahead of next weekend's Scottish Cup final against St. Johnstone.

in many ways the lacklustre draw was Celtic's season in a microcosm with the lifeless, uninspired display summing up the club's disastrous campaign.

3 takeaways from Easter Road

Youth needs to be given more of a chance

Kennedy introduced Karamoko Dembele and Adam Montgomery in the second-half, but the interim boss only saw fit to give each player little more than a cameo appearance, with both coming on in the 80th minute.

Dembele definitely brightened up proceedings with his energetic runs, and the exciting winger almost broke the deadlock in the closing stages.

The 18-year-old looked pretty peeved when he was introduced and both he and Montgomery could rightfully be asking why they haven't been handed more of an opportunity considering the awful form of some first-team regulars.

Brown m ight be leaving at just the right time

He's provided plenty of inspirational performances from the middle of the pitch throughout the last 14 years but driving this sorry Celtic rabble forward was a step too far today - even for Scott Brown.

The skipper was seen barking instructions to his team-mates, and he was far from Celtic's worst performer on the day, but his inability to no longer match the previous heights of being able to drag his team kicking and screaming into any contest was telling this afternoon.

He'll undoubtedly go down as a modern-day Celtic legend, and rightfully so, but perhaps Brown is departing at just the right time.

Attacking reinforcements badly needed

Celtic need serious surgery in pretty much every area of the pitch but the need for attacking reinforcements was plain for everyone to see this afternoon.

Odsonne Edouard started, and had his dangerous moments, but the Frenchman hasn't looked completely interested in being a Celtic player for a while now.

Leigh Griffiths came off the bench in the second-half but he failed to make much on an impact on proceedings in what could be his final outing as a Hoops player.
