By now, Chiefs fans have studied the 2019 schedule up and down, many having already purchased tickets to the most anticipated games of the season.
Not to be overlooked, however, are the dreaded “trap games.” These are games against teams deemed beatable on paper. These games typically take place the week prior to a big game against a team considered a tougher opponent.
The Chiefs did a nice job of taking care of business against inferior competition last season, with their four losses all coming against playoff teams. They will need to do the same in 2019 if they wish to be the No. 1 seed in the AFC for the second consecutive season.
We’ve located a few potential trap games on Kansas City’s 2019 schedule. Let’s take a look.

Week 2 at Oakland Raiders
This matchup is wedged between the season opener in Jacksonville against the Jaguars and the Chiefs’ home opener in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs will be preparing all offseason for the season opener and will be itching to play in front of the home crowd after back-to-back road games.
Could K.C. overlook the Raiders? Last season, the Raiders were the type of team you could probably take a bit lightly and still beat, but that won’t be the case in 2019. They have undoubtedly improved their roster this offseason, but the Chiefs are still the superior team. A letdown in Oakland before the home opener against a good Ravens team would put the Chiefs in hot water early in the season.

Week 6 vs. Houston Texans
This will be your typical midseason noon game, but could be a trap game for K.C. The week prior, the Chiefs will have faced the Indianapolis Colts in a big Sunday Night Football matchup. After they’re through with Houston, the Chiefs will face the Broncos in Denver four days later for Thursday Night Football.
The Texans should be a formidable team in 2019, so the Chiefs will need to play well against them. K.C. could be reeling after battling the Colts and could get caught looking ahead to Denver. Perhaps safety Tyrann Mathieu will find some extra motivation to come up big against his former team.

Week 15 vs. Denver Broncos
The Broncos could be an improved team in 2019, but they aren’t scaring anybody. A letdown to Denver late in the season could be catastrophic for the Chiefs. They will be coming off a vital matchup against the New England Patriots, which could very well decide the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
After the game against Denver, the Chiefs will travel to Chicago to take on the Bears in a big Sunday Night Football clash. A letdown against the Broncos could make the Bears matchup a must-win for K.C. After facing the Bears, the Chiefs will close the season at home against the Los Angeles Chargers, which could potentially decide the winner of the AFC West.
