GURUGRAM: Three workers were killed and another was injured in a fire that broke out at a battery manufacturing factory in Faridabad’s Sector 37 on Saturday morning. Police said the factory did not have any safety measures in place and the owner was booked for causing death due to negligence.
The fire broke out around 10.30am when only four workers were inside the factory, owned by Fuji Cell Company, near the Anangpur dairy area of Sector 37. While the three of them — Satbir (22), Sunil and Ankit, both 20 — were charred to death, their colleague, Amrit, suffered minor injuries. All of them stayed in MB Road in Delhi.
“As soon as I saw the flames, I rushed out of the front door. But Satbir, Sunil and Ankit, who were near the bathroom, couldn’t come out because there was no emergency exit. They were burnt to death inside the factory,” Amrit told TOI. “Despite repeated requests, the factory owner did not make the provision of an emergency exit. Even on Friday, we had raised the issue.”
Amrit said Satbir had recently become a father to a daughter. “Her daughter is just 20 days old. Every day, he would be excited to go back home and see his daughter. The lives of the poor don’t count. That’s why no safety arrangement was made for us in the factory even after repeated requests. The owner is responsible for the deaths,” he added.
Based on his complaint, an FIR under Section 304 (causing death by negligence) of the IPC was registered at Sarai Khawaja police station against factory owner Ajay Gupta, a resident of Faridabad. “Because of his negligent attitude, my three co-workers lost their lives,” Amrit claimed in his police complaint.
