2nd Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten century lifts India to 225/3 at tea on Day 1

NEW DELHI: Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his batting prowess with an unbeaten century, guiding India to 225 for three at tea on the opening day of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam.

India's captain, Rohit Sharma, elected to bat after winning the toss, but apart from Jaiswal, the top-order batsmen struggled to capitalize on favorable batting conditions.

Scorecard: India vs England 2nd Test

Jaiswal's impressive knock of 125 included three sixes and 14 fours, providing stability to the Indian innings. Debutant Rajat Patidar was unbeaten on 25 at the other end, making a promising start to his Test career.

England's off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who missed the series opener due to a visa delay, made an impact by claiming his maiden Test wicket in the fourth over. Rohit Sharma (14) nudged the ball to leg slip, where Ollie Pope took the catch.

Shubman Gill contributed a brisk 34, featuring five fours, before James Anderson, the lone fast bowler in England's lineup, dismissed him, getting Gill caught behind close to the lunch break.

Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer formed a crucial partnership of 90 runs to stabilize the innings. Jaiswal's aggressive approach included hitting Tom Hartley for three successive fours and reaching his second Test hundred with a towering six off the spinner.

Jaiswal's celebration highlighted his joy, dropping the bat and raising his arms, but Iyer (27) couldn't convert his start and fell caught behind to Hartley.

As India head into the final session of the day, they will aim to build on the foundation laid by Jaiswal and Patidar. England, on the other hand, will seek further breakthroughs to limit India's total in the ongoing Test match.
