2nd ODI in Numbers: Multiple records broken as Australia sink India

NEW DELHI: Pacer Mitchell Starc turned out to be the tormentor-in-chief with the ball while openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head hit dazzling half-centuries as Australia romped to a 10-wicket win over India in the second one-dayer in Visakhapatnam to level the series.

Starc was at his absolute best as his 9th five-for helped the visitors fold India for a lowly 117 in 26 overs. Marsh and Head then wrapped up the chase in a blink of an eye, taking the Aussies home in just 11 overs.

It was an afternoon of records for both the teams. As for India, the hosts were on the wrong side of the history books and the multiple unwarranted records will haunt them for some time. Australia on the other hand, enjoyed a perfect day and rewrote the books with a clinical display.

Here's a look at the records that were re-written and broken in the India vs Australia second ODI.

# The 117 is now India's third lowest score against Australia in ODIs. 63 in 1981 and 100 in 2000 both in Sydney continue to be the lowest India totals versus Australia.

# It was also India's fourth lowest ODI score at home after 78 vs Sri Lanka in 1986, 100 vs West Indies in 1993 and 112 vs Sri Lanka in 2017.

# Mitchell Starc moved up to the third spot on the list of most five-fors in ODIs. It was Starc's 9th fifer in the format and the pacer is now only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (10) and Pakistan's Waqar Younis (13).

# The defeat was also India's worst-ever in ODIs in terms of balls remaining as Australia cruised to the 118 target with 234 balls to spare.

# Australia fired 121/0 in 11 overs and it is now their third fastest (in terms of overs) to complete an ODI run-chase. The other two being 66/1 in 7.5 overs against USA in 2004 and 71/1 in 9.2 overs versus West Indies in 2013.
