THANE: As many as 297 people were caught for drunk driving on December 31 by the Thane traffic police during the late night drive across 22 units under Thane police commissionerate right from Kopri in Thane till Badlapur.
Apart from the drunken drivers, the traffic cops also found 131 people accompanying drunken drivers and booked them for abetment under 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.) IPC .
The traffic department claimed that the cops checking the alcohol level of the suspected drunk offenders had followed the SOPs for Covid-19.
They had worn PPE kits and used disposable nozzles to test the alcohol level through the breathalyzer machines as well as videographed it.
Fortunately no untoward accident was reported on December 31, said Balasaheb Patil , DCP traffic.
