24 years later, I'm still daydreaming about the lap pool at Lenny Kravitz's former Miami mansion – it's the epitome of liveable luxury

Some spaces are so striking that they haunt us for years after seeing pictures of them. For me, the front yard of Lenny Kravitz's former Miami home at Biscayne Point is one such place.

An archival image of the concrete house from 2001 shows the singer's lap pool idea abutting the waterfront. His narrow pool leans against the house like a moat, creating room for a massive modern patio. It includes a large round hot tub, two dining tables, and endless space for sunbathing. Splashes of greenery ground the modern look.

24 years have passed since the photo was taken, but Lenny's patio idea is still powerful fodder for the imagination.

Shop the Modern Poolside Edit

Whether or not you have a waterfront mansion in Miami, these modern furnishings and plants can help create a similar feeling of liveable luxury as embodied by Lenny's home. The chairs are my absolute favorite.

What makes Kravitz's space so memorable to me? First, his choice of a smaller lap pool rather than a full-sized swimming area piques my interest. This creates a Mediterranean feel and leaves room for lots of patio space.

The interesting shape adds character to the surface, and its positioning makes it look almost like an extension of the ocean. Luckily, whether it's a tiny plunge pool or another iteration of a small swimming space, Lenny's idea is easy to replicate.

Second, I love Lenny's use of color in his waterfront front yard. Aside from the water, everything on the patio is white or green. From the concrete ground to the furnishings to the poolside firepit, all the built elements shine in their light-reflecting glory. The punctuations of palm trees and grass add color and a rougher texture.

Finally, I find the curves in this space impossible to get out of my mind. Nearly every element on Lenny's patio is a circle. The planters, furniture, and hot tub create an effect that resembles a piece of pointillist art from a distance. Even the rectangular lap pool is curved.

In 24 more years, I think I'll still find this space just as striking.
