23-year-old female student shot dead in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: A 23-year-old college student was allegedly shot dead in the wee hours of Thursday at a flat in Dayal Residency at Faizabad road under the Chinhat Police station area of Lucknow.

"A case of murder under IPC 302 has been registered at Chinhat police station and a prime suspect Aditya Pathak, 26, has been arrested," said Syed Ali Abbas, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).

The victim has been identified as Nishtha Tripathi, a student of BBD College, and a resident of Hardoi. He was pursuing B.Com Honours, said police.

Reportedly, the incident happened at a house party organised at the flat where several students were present. Police have also recovered liquor bottles from the house. However, police have refuted claims of any party being held at the flat.

"It was a rented flat where Aditya, a resident of Ballia used to live and had called Nishtha to meet at his flat. After sometime a possible altercation between both lead the boy to attacking the girl with a country made gun at her shoulder," Aninday Vikram Singh, ACP, Vibhuti Khand.

"The ownership and the licensee of the gun is still being investigated," he added.

"She was taken to RMLIMS where she was brought dead," said the ADCP.

"After which a case was registered and all other possible angles are being investigated. Others present in the flat have also been taken into custody for questioning," he added.

The student had gone to the Dayal Residency house on the advice of her friend Aditya Pathak.

Police said that accused Aditya is a property dealer and has a criminal record. He recently got bail in a case of extortion.
