More than destinations could be added to the green travel list this summer, according to an industry expert.
There are 22 more countries that could be permitted for quarantine-free travel as part of the UK Government's next travel update on July 15. These include Italy, France and the Czech Republic.
Fourteen countries and territories, including Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca, were moved to the green list last week.
But a number of popular holiday hotspots such as France, Greece, Italy and mainland Spain remain in the amber tier currently, Lancashire Live reports.
Travellers returning to the UK from those countries must self-isolate at home for 10 days.
However, Robert Boyle, a former British Airways strategy chief, said 22 countries now meet the threshold to be included on the green list.
He told the Telegraph that all of the destinations had infection rates lower than 20 cases per 100,000 of the population and with fewer than 1.5 per cent of all tests taken returning a positive covid result.
All of the 22 countries listed are currently on the amber list which requires British tourists to self-isolate for 10 days and subsequently pay for at least two Covid-19 tests on days two and eight.
Mr Boyle said: “There seems to be nothing in the data the Government says it is using that explains why they are languishing on the amber list at this point.
“I’m sure the answer is politics somehow, but there doesn’t even seem to be any obvious political logic for why two apparently similar countries get classified differently.”
The 22 countries he says should be eligible to join the green list are:

- Estonia

- Lebanon
- Liechtenstein

- Azerbaijan
The next review is expected to take place on July 15 and any changes are then likely to be introduced the week after.
