2027 Chevrolet Bolt EUV: Everything We Know About America's Most Affordable New EV

You just can't keep the Chevrolet Bolt down. Even though General Motors' original modern electric vehicle was pretty outclassed by the end of its seven-year production run, it presented such a great deal that it carried most of the automaker's EV sales in 2023.

And it was so popular that it got itself un-canceled after a public outcry—something even the Camaro hasn't officially been able to pull off yet.

GM axed the Bolt because it was based on older EV and battery hardware and was, for a long time at least, not profitable. But now it's due for a comeback, and it's looking better than ever. Let's take a look at the reborn 2027 Bolt.

2027 Chevrolet Bolt: What Is It?

The original Bolt EV debuted in 2016 as a 2017 model-year car, developed by GM's Korean team and built in Michigan. The Bolt EV was always meant to be an affordable, practical compact, and it quickly found a loyal audience of buyers. The slightly larger, more crossover-like Bolt EUV was added for the second generation for people who needed more size.

Now, after a four-year hiatus, the Bolt is coming back as a 2027 model. The OG hatchback version is gone, but the small crossover remains, just without the EUV branding. While the 2027 Bolt gets some exterior updates, it looks very similar to the discontinued model.

However, more than 50% of the new Bolt's parts are new or modified, and GM brought a bunch of updates under the skin to charging, range, batteries and more. All that places the 2027 Bolt somewhere between a mid-cycle refresh and a fully new generation.

Pricing And Availability

2027 Chevy Bolt

The 2027 Bolt will roll out of GM's Kansas City plant starting in January 2026, with the launch edition costing $29,990 including destination fees. As things stand today, it will be America's cheapest EV when it comes on the market, bringing some semblance of affordability to a historically pricey segment. (The base 2026 Nissan Leaf will likely undercut the Bolt, but we don't have any information on pricing quite yet.)

A few months after launch, a base Bolt LT model will arrive at $28,995. Get one while you can: GM said the Bolt will be "limited run," and we don't know exactly what that means.

Range, Charging And Batteries

By the end of its run in December 2023, the Bolt EUV boasted 247 miles of range. That was decent, but DC fast charging was limited to a lethargic 55 kilowatts—a fraction of what most modern EVs can manage. The new Bolt does a whole lot better.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt comes with a NACS charging port for easy access to Tesla Superchargers.

Its peak charging rate is now a respectable 150 kilowatts, allowing for a 10%-80% charge in 26 minutes. The Bolt also gets a built-in Tesla-style North American Charging Standard port, which EVs are gradually moving to. That should allow for easier access to Tesla Superchargers, but it does mean you'll likely have to use an adapter at other stations.

GM improved the Bolt's range slightly too, boosting it to an estimated 255 miles. And the Bolt's 65-kilowatt-hour battery pack uses a new chemistry: lithium iron phosphate (LFP). The durable, China-sourced LFP cells are arranged in a cell-to-pack format, saving weight and space. The lower-cost chemistry likely helped GM hit the sub-$30,000 price point, too.

The 2027 Bolt shares its 210-horsepower electric motor with its big brother, the Equinox EV. It's front-wheel drive, just like before.

Interior And Tech

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt has a refreshed interior with a larger 11.3-inch touchscreen display.

The new Bolt gets a big infotainment upgrade in the form of a new 11.3-inch touchscreen display. As is true of other GM EVs—and, someday, gas vehicles—Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt's tech upgrades help bring it into the modern EV era.

Just like before, GM's excellent hands-free highway driving assistance feature, Super Cruise, is available as an option.

2027 Chevy Bolt: The Competition

When the next Bolt does go on sale, it will compete against a few new EV models seeking to lure in the next wave of adopters with much more affordable prices. Those include the Kia EV3, Chevy's own Equinox EV, Ford's upcoming cheap pickup truck and the $25,000 Slate pickup

We're excited to drive it soon and learn how it stacks up. And when we do, you'll be the first to know.
