2021 Bank holiday loophole gets you ten days off work for three days' leave

We may be less than a fortnight into 2021, but workers across the country are already trying to book their holidays for the year.

The most popular days to book off tend to be around bank and school holidays.

And due to the rare falling of bank holiday dates this year, there has been an unusual loophole that gives people a chance to get ten days off work for just three days of annual leave.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day all fall on a weekend this year, meaning the usual bank holiday dates are shifted, resulting in a bank holiday on a Tuesday.

This last time this happened was in 2010, and it won’t happen again until 2027, reports Somerset Live.

People who normally always get weekends and bank holidays off, but have to work over the festive period need only book three days off to get ten consecutive days away from work next Christmas.

The bank holiday date for Christmas Day now falls on Monday, December 27 and the Boxing Day bank holiday date falls on Tuesday, December 28.

Monday, January 3, 2022, is also a bank holiday day in place for New Year’s Day, which will fall on a Saturday.

Therefore if you book off December 29, 30 and 31, you will have successfully booked between December 25 and January 4 off work.
