2020 NFL mock draft: Justin Herbert tabbed as Bengals’ pick as college football kicks off

With college football starting Saturday night thanks to a showdown between the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators, it was only natural for more 2020 NFL mock drafts to pop up.

In a notable offering, the Cincinnati Bengals decide to take Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert at No. 2 overall (order based on Super Bowl odds).

Here’s Jacob Infante of Draft Wire:

There’s a very good chance that Herbert could have been the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft, but he opted to stay at Oregon for his senior year. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound signal-caller throws with great touch and velocity, and he has the size and athleticism that NFL teams covet at the position.

This is far from the only time a 2020 mock has connected the Bengals to Herbert.

Herbert threw for 3,000-plus yards and 29 touchdowns with eight interceptions last year but chose to return to school. Inconsistency was a mark against his draft stock, but the plus-traits found in franchise passers mean NFL teams likely won’t hesitate once he enters the pros.

As for the Bengals, the onslaught of losses to the offensive line and injuries to key guys like A.J. Green already have thrown a bit of a damper on an otherwise exciting offseason. It’s incredibly early to be talking about the draft, but another top-10 pick wouldn’t be too hard to envision and Andy Dalton only has one year left on his current deal after this season.
