2020 NFL Draft: ESPN’s Todd McShay projects the top five picks

It’s been less than a week since the final picks in the 2019 NFL Draft were made, but it’s never too soon to begin looking forward at the next draft class. As soon as the Arizona Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick and traded Josh Rosen to Miami, it became a running joke on Twitter that the Dolphins could potentially be in the running for standout prospect Tua Tagovailoa in 2020. According to ESPN draft expert Todd McShay, Rosen will be replaced yet again in one year, after Tagovailoa makes another run at the Heisman Trophy at Alabama.

McShay released his first-round mock for the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday, and two Alabama phenoms are at the top of the board. Tagovailoa has been projected as the top prospect in the 2019 class for some time, though he did struggle with injuries in his sophomore season in Tuscaloosa. His top target for the 2019 season, Jerry Jeudy, had 1,315 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns last season for the Crimson Tide. You can see McShay’s entire first-round mock on ESPN.

  • 1. Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa to the Dolphins
  • 2. Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy to the Cardinals
  • 3. LSU S Grant Delpit to the Broncos
  • 4. Ohio State DE Chase Young to the Redskins
  • 5. Oregon QB Justin Herbert to the Raiders

As we saw in the buildup to the 2019 NFL Draft, however, there is sure to be significant movement on draft boards throughout the year. In our first consensus mock draft of the year in January, LSU CB Greedy Williams was projected as the fourth overall pick, but slipped to 46th in the draft. WR D.K. Metcalf dropped from a projected spot of 9th to 64th, and DE Jachai Polite’s terrible combine performance triggered a freefall from 10th to 68th.
