2020 Belfast Marathon has been postponed until September due to coronavirus crisis

The 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The event, which was due to be run in May, has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 20, with the Half Marathon also moved back to Sunday February 28, 2021.

John Allen, chairman of Belfast City Marathon Ltd, said the decision had been made with the “world in an unprecedented situation with the global pandemic of COVID-19.”

He added: “The situation is disappointing for you all after your hard weeks of training and efforts of fundraising, but our fundamental priority is the health of everyone.

"We know we can stay strong and gather to celebrate your achievements on the rescheduled dates.”

All participants who have registered for the Belfast City Marathon, which was initially scheduled for May 3, will automatically be transferred to the new date in September.

The same applies for the Half Marathon which was initially scheduled for September 20.

Any participant unable to run in the rescheduled events can defer their entry to the 2021 Marathon and Half Marathon on May 2, 2021 and September 19, 2021 respectively.

If you are deferring, you must let organisers know before Wednesday, April 1.

Equally, participants can transfer their entry to someone else for either of the rescheduled dates.

The deadline date for this process is Monday, June 1, 2020.

Updates will be emailed to entrants by the end of next week, while information will also be provided at www.belfastcitymarathon.com.

Event t-shirts will be available for the 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon.
