Mike Maccagnan may not be the general manager of the Jets anymore, but two players he was responsible for bringing in are in the top 20 merchandise sales from March 1 through May 31.
That would be Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams, according to the NFL Players Association.
Coming in at No. 4 is Darnold, the second-year quarterback. With Darnold being so high on the list, it is obvious how excited Jets fans are over the future of the franchise. Darnold finds himself ahead of star QBs Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. With new skill position players Jamison Crowder and Le’Veon Bell in town, Darnold could turn into a star in just his second year in the league.
At No. 16 is Adams, who is arguably the best player on the Jets roster. It is no surprise to see the former LSU player gaining in popularity coming off his first Pro Bowl season. Adams is by far the most confident player on the Jets roster and is not afraid to try to get in his opponents heads. Adams’ confident play and leadership qualities make him one of the most popular players on the team.
An interesting omission from this list is running back Le’Veon Bell, who joins New York after sitting out last season as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bell joins the Jets with lofty expectations, and if they are going to be contenders, they need the back to play like his vintage self. If Bell performs well in New York, do not be surprised to see his name high on the list next season, as Jets fans will be rushing to purchase a No. 26 jersey.
