An 86-year-old woman died and a man was hurt in a fire early Thursday in Austin on the West Side.

They were pulled from a burning home about 1:10 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Parkside Avenue, according to Chicago police.

Mary Lynch was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where she was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She lived in the same block where the fire occurred.

A man in his late 60s was taken to Loretto Hospital in critical condition, but his condition has since stabilized, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
