CHANDIGARH: MP Kirron Kher inaugurated two community centres in sectors 20 and 30 on Monday. Both community centres have been constructed by the UT engineering department and have been handed over to the MC after inauguration. The community centres have been equipped with new features and will provide multiple facilities to people.
Addressing the gathering, Kher said that the community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. She said that community centres promoted a sense of belonging and social inclusion by providing a place for the members of the community to meet and engage in collective activities. “The City Beautiful has community centres in each sector generally that cater to a variety of community activities. Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is not only facilitating the public through centralisation of services of booking of community centres through e-Sampark, but also keeping the system impartial in terms of booking”, Kher said.
Mayor Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon said the community centre at Sector 30 had been built on 18,500 square feet and spread over a plot area of approximately one acre. Expenditure of Rs 4.50 crore has been incurred on construction of the building. The comunity centre has the capacity to accommodate 500 persons in one go.
